Announcing the Addition of Super Groups!

Magnifi Group is excited to announce the launch of our latest Learn-WiseGo enhancement- Super Groups!

What makes a group super? The ability to add other groups to it!

Super groups allow you to organize users into nested groups or a structure that reflects your company structure.

For example, let’s say your company is organized by regions. You could create Europe as a Super Group containing Germany, France, and Spain. You can add further groups within these countries. For example, in Germany, you could add Bavaria with user Michael Jackson.

All reports can also be filtered by group and this is where Super Groups really shines.

The reports will show a comparison by region or city. How is one country doing compared to other countries you ask? Filter the reports by the Parent Group and the data will follow.

Furthermore, with our upcoming advancement of Group Manager, your sub-administrators will have the ability to manage their own groups. With Super Groups in place, admin can manage entire regions of users without seeing other users within the company.

Competitive Edge: Using Gamification as Motivation


Welcome back our two-part mini-series on gamification. Gamification is a big topic in the training and eLearning industry. It means, as its name suggests, the application of elements typically found in playing a game to a non-game situation –like work. Gamification allows you to tap into people’s natural tendencies for achievement, status, curiosity, learning, etc.

In our last post, we looked at awarding points to users for completing training. External motivators like points and rewards are a great tool to encourage participation. Who doesn’t like a gold star next his name or to win a new iPad? But there’s another side of motivation, intrinsic motivation, and you can access it through gamification.  Two of my favorite gamification methods that tap into intrinsic motivation are storytelling and scenario-based learning. Both of these topics deserve dedicated blog posts; however, we will introduce the topics today, and continue to talk about them in the future.


Did you know that stories are up to 22 times more memorable than facts or figures alone?[1] Stories are powerful tools for learning because they provides multiple ways to connect and hold on to facts, figures, and concepts. Reading a PowerPoint slide with some bullet points and a picture will activate one part of our brain. (If you are lucky, it won’t activate the part that makes you sleepy!) A story will activate several parts of your brain and trigger chemical reactions that release feel-good chemicals further strengthening the connection your brain makes with the content. Storytelling has the power to create relevance in a way few other methods of communicating can, and relevance is extremely important for motivating busy adult learners.


Let’s say, for example, you want to train people on your latest product. Rather than hitting them with all the facts and figures about why it’s so great, tell them the story of why the company created the product in the first place. Tell them the real-life story of the problem the product is designed to fix. Tell them about the journey the creator took to get the product from idea to reality. Sprinkle the key facts and figures throughout the story, and people are sure to retain more.

Scenario-based learning

Scenario-based learning has a lot in common with storytelling. It takes storytelling a step further and puts the learner in the center of the story and asks them to solve problems, make choices, and discover the consequences.  This makes it a really powerful tool for making connections, validating relevance, and proving concepts. By using real-life situations to present information and concepts, it allows the learner to practice and understand the outcomes of their choices. It makes the learner an active participant rather than a passive observer.


Think of a situation your trainees encounter regularly during their work. What choices or obstacles will they encounter as they deal with the situation? Present that situation to them as realistically as possible, and let them choose for themselves what they think they should do. They can then discover and ‘experience’ the outcome, and you can give them feedback.

For example, perhaps you are training some new hires on your service team. You can present them with real-life cases of problems that need to be solved with your products. By putting the information into a relevant context, your learners are much likely to know what to do when they encounter the situation in real life.

Competitive Edge: Using Gamification as Motivation

Having a hard time motivating your users to login and complete your brand-new and well-made training? Sometimes a little extra incentive in the form of a game or a reward can help take user engagement to the next level.  We will be looking at gamification in a two-part blog series, and in the first article, we will look at motivating with points and rewards.

Gamification, or adding the elements of game playing such as point scoring and the chance to win prizes,can give your users a sense of pride and accomplishment as they watch their points increase with each new module completed. It can also incentivize your users to go the extra mile and complete optional trainings for the additional reward. Gamification can even have a positive effect on your corporate culture by making training more approachable and encouraging friendly competition between coworkers or teams for who can reach their goals first and reap the rewards.

Deadline Approaching! Your Guide to Training Due Date Options

We all create training for a variety of different reasons and purposes. You might create an informational module for users to peruse at their leisure. You might have a mandatory, annual compliance training. Or, you might have an urgent product update that everyone needs to review by the end of the week.

We recognize there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ when it comes to due dates, so we have created many options from which you can choose for any training need.

  1. Standard Start Date & End Date

How it Works: You pick the days on the calendar when the training will start and when the training will end. Anyone who does not complete the training by the due date will fail*. If a user fails, he will no longer have the opportunity to complete this training. Once the due date has passed, you will not be able to assign this Lesson Plan to new users.

When to use it: Use this option when you need a firm end date. Often, the end date is related to another event. Perhaps this is pre-training for an in-person meeting, and anyone who does not complete the elearning on time is not allowed to attend. Maybe the information in the training will expire and no longer be relevant past the due date.

*Users will only fail if the course is set to expire. See #4 below.

Due date

  1. No End Date

How it works: You choose the calendar “Set Date” option, but you do not select an end date. This Lesson Plan will never expire, and you can always assign this training to new users.

When to use it: Use this option when you want to give your users the most flexibility to complete their training.

  1. Duration

How it works: You choose the option to “Set Days” and enter a number of days. Every user, no matter when he is assigned, will have the same number of days to complete the assignment.

When to use it: This is a great option for New Hire training. You might have a standard set of training every new employee needs to complete, and you would like them to complete it in a certain number of days. The training will never expire and can always be assigned to new users. However, any user that does not complete the training within the timeframe will fail.*

 *Users will only fail if the course is set to expire. See #4 below.


  1. Course Set to Expire

How it works: If you use a due date (on the calendar or number of days) you can choose if users will really fail if they do not complete the training within the timeframe. If you do not set the course to expire, users will not fail. Rather, their status will now say OVERDUE, and they will still have the opportunity to complete the training. If you do set the course to expire, any user who has not completed the training by the due date will fail.

When to use it: Choosing not to set a course to expire is a great option if you want to give users a due date (this can be very motivating), but you do not want them to fail and you want them to complete the training – even after the due date has passed. This is a nice, flexible option. Choosing to set a course to expire is the stricter option. All users who have not completed the course will fail and they will no longer have the opportunity to complete the training.



  1. Extension Days

How it works: If you create a course with a due date that is set to expire, you have the option to grant extension days. These are days past the due date during which users still have the chance to complete the training. You can choose to notify users if they have been given extension days or not.

When to use it: If you need to have a firm due date, but you are willing to allow a set number of extra days, then this is a great option. For example, you have an in-person class, and you really want all users to complete some eLearning BEFORE they come. However, you are willing to allow them to complete it during the in-person class. If they haven’t completed the eLearning by the end of the in-person class, they should fail. This would be a great time to use extension days.

Making a Connection: 6 Tips for a Successful Webinar

Hosting a webinar is a great way to connect with your audience or bring your users together across different learner groups, or across the country. However, without being in the same room, how can you deliver a great, attention-grabbing presentation that your audience will remember?

If you haven’t yet hosted a webinar, or are looking for ways to improve, read on for some best practices.

  • Pay attention to your audio.

    The more clearly your audience can hear you, the more they will remain interested, and the more professional and prepared you sound. Start with the right location, opting for a quiet room and preferably a land line to avoid any signal drops. Then move on to your microphone- instead of relying on one built in to your PC, opt for an external microphone or headset. If the option is available, you can also cut down on any attendee background noise by using the option to mute attendees by default.

  • Practice makes progress.

    Even though you are in front of a screen, not a room, practicing your speech can help you sound more confident and comfortable when presenting. Consider recording or timing yourself to see if there is anything to improve on.

  • Keep your audience engaged.

    In a webinar, you are competing for attention with your attendee’s computer screens, as well as anything in their work environment. Keep your slides simple, and mix up the content by adding in interactive questions, videos, and short quizzes. With Learn-WiseGo, you can even add an exam or review materials to the end of your webinar to help your attendees retain the lesson.

  • Keep your tone conversational.

    Instead of envisioning yourself speaking to a full room, imagine yourself having multiple one-to-one conversations to keep your tone friendly and forward. Using “you” helps draw attention and reduces formality. For example, instead of asking, “are there any questions?” use “do you have any questions for me?”

  • Don’t do it alone.

    You may be the only one speaking in your final presentation, but you can always rely on others for help along the way. Before your webinar, have a friend listen to you and offer feedback in a trial run. While you present, have a partner monitor chat to help field any questions.
